Our Team Spotlight

Chris Girardi

Acquisition Consultant

What was your first Job?

My first job was with an amusement company walking ponies at county fairs for $.50 per rider. On a good day, I would make $40-50 (you do the math).

How does your job fit into the TMPC mission?

My current job with TMPC as an Acquisition Consultant fits squarely into the “Acquisition Support Services” provided by TMPC.

How long have you worked for TMPC?

I’ve been employed by TMPC for about 5 months.

What are your career goals?

My goals at this point in my career are to expand my expertise into IT and acquire some certifications or training that would allow me to gain a better technical understanding of requirements and possibly expand my consulting services beyond just Acquisition (and someday retire).

Briefly explain your career path.

Every step in my career has been intentional with the desire to pursue a career as a consultant. Starting in college when I was able to land an internship at a large defense contractor working my way from buyer to subcontract administrator it was all with a purpose in mind. Over the next 10 years I continued to move around finding opportunities in contracting and increasing management responsibilities. My transition into the government in Contracts positioned me well to obtain experience as a Contracting Officer, COR, COTR and to obtain my DAWIA certifications in Contracts and Program Management. After almost 7 years in government, I’ve spent the last 5 years as a SETA support contractor, and I intend to continue doing that supporting Intel Customers on site as long as I can. My goal someday is to semi-retire and continue to do acquisition/IT consulting but do it remotely and part time until I’ve had enough (and can retire-retire)!

How has your career grown since starting at TMPC?

TMPC provided me an opportunity to move away from supporting primarily CIO customers and allowed me the ability to support S&T. I’ve always been supporting engineers, but always in an IT environment (large hardware and software, operations and maintenance contracts). Now thanks to TMPC, I’m being exposed to an S&T environment and supporting development and non-enterprise level requirements working their way through the development cycle. The exposure will allow me to grow my skill set to learn how to develop and support various types of efforts which will help grow my career.

Fun Facts!
  • Where is your hometown?

Northern Virginia

  • What college did you attend?

I received my undergraduate degree from George Mason University and my postgraduate degree from Florida Tech.

  • What are your favorite hobbies?

I enjoy listening to live music whenever possible and enjoy cooking (grilling and smoking) and fair-weather fishing when my schedule allows. I also have two children (middle school and high school) and they keep my wife and I very busy with their after-school activities.

  • What is your favorite book?

Sadly, I don’t do a lot of reading for pleasure as I do a lot of reading and writing for work. If I do read it is mostly about social media or food related.

  • What is your favorite movie?

The original Matrix movie I thought was pretty amazing, and around the holidays National Lampoons Christmas Vacation still makes me laugh out loud. I don’t really follow current movies or Hollywood.

  • Who is your favorite sports team?

Around Washington DC, the Caps have given us a lot to cheer about.

  • Where is your favorite place you have traveled?

My family and I have enjoyed many vacations to the beaches in Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina Outer Banks (OBX). My wife and friends have taken a few trips to Montego Bay, Jamaica and really enjoyed the resort hospitality.

  • Most interesting person you have met?

Maybe not the most interesting but the most influential person I met was my first boss (Wayne) who introduced me to corporate America as a fresh college grad. He taught me about hard work, and he also taught me that you don’t have to love your work. You have to like your work so you can afford to do what you love when you’re not working. He and I still stay in contact and has had a heavy influence on my life decisions.
